The history of Dahongpao

Dahongpao also know as Big Robe originated from the Wuyi Mountains in Fujian China. It is one of the best brands of tea that china is proud of producing as it has a complex flavor enriched with medicinal components. The history of Dahongpao can be traced back to the Ming Dynasty. Here is hwere it was first cultivated and produced by monks in the Wuyi Mountains. Legends put it that it was during the reign of Emperor Jiajing when a mother of one of the emperor's officials fell sick. The officials were unable to cure her, but then a monk from the Wuyi Mountains offered her some tea made from the Dahongpao plants growing on the mountainside. The mother was miraculously cured, and as a result, the emperor directed robes of honor to the Wuyi Mountains as a reward for the monks.

 Dahongpao has been highly sought after where it has also fetched incredibly high prices in auction places. As a matter of fact, a single gram of authentic Dahongpao tea was sold for over 180,000 yuan which is equivalent to around $28,000 USD today the production of Dahongpao tea is a meticulous and labor-intensive. Here, tea leaves are picked by hand then withered, oxidized, and dried-up. It is then roasted over charcoal to give it a unique flavor and aroma. Dahongpao is very rare and expensive due to its limited production and high demand. However, there are many imitations on the current market places, which has led to a lot of controversy and disputes over the authenticity of the tea.
